Elements of Potency
75% of this EP was crafted in Katelin's bedroom, while the remainder was crafted in a Woodland Hills recording Studio in Los Angeles. This project was created with the collaboration of Katelin's brother, Kyle Goldstraj, who is also a producer, as well as her mentor/engineer, Ajax Kid.
Inspiration struck Katelin at the start of isolation in Las Vegas at her mothers house. She grabbed her iPhone and began messing around with GarageBand, writing, and recording. She hadn't realised all the pent up emotion she had within until she began to channelize through her music and sound. A heartbreak that was not yet processed, along with a few emotional wounds that were left open. Two years, self-reflections, and a ton of trial & error later, Elements of Potency came about.
Symbolism
Track 1. Elements of Potency
This emotive piano track brings forth the inner contradictory voice within Katelin’s headspace. Struggling to break out of the toxic patterns from her very first relationship. From what was once a healthy & young love, turned into a codependent, passionate, and intense relationship. Left with the feelings of confusion and no sense of self, Katelin was quickly able to gain the awareness of the toxicity, despite the strong chemistry. Throughout this track she proclaims her inner battles, the struggles of detachment, the lessons, and the good that emerged from the overall experience. Recognizing the necessity of breaking away from this person, for her own greater good.
Track 2. Dynamite
As captivating sonics surged through the walls of Katelin’s home in Orange County, CA, she stepped outside her room & followed the enticing sound which led to her brother’s bedroom. “Dynamite” as you know it, was simply just another beat her brother was working on during another day of the isolation in 2020. She was fascinated by the work and asked for permission to use the track. Within 30 minutes, a heartfelt and profound piece was crafted. The isolation that was endured throughout this time period allowed her to uncover much within. “Dynamite” reveals the recognition of the emotional destruction that was imposed by this person. Katelin undergoes the understanding & emotional processing of the toxicity that arises when this person is in her world, and metaphorically compares this person to an explosive, dynamite.
Track 3. Diamond
Diamond is an expression of acceptance and appreciation for the experiences shared with the person of her past. Self-reflection played a huge role in the writing process of this track, shining light on the greater qualities this person brought forth. Through time and reflection grew an appreciation for all of the life lessons and love that came along with the experience of the two. Gratitude is gracefully represented throughout this track, comparing the person of her past as a Diamond in the Rough. Katelin is left with a greater sense of self, gratitude, and a touch of wisdom.
